Drivers

Being a tram driver involves a lot more than driving. Getting passengers to their destination safely and on time are crucial parts of the job. Providing great customer service is important too. The role involves interacting with the public in a number of ways, including updating passengers during disruptions.

With around 75 per cent of our network on shared roads, our tram drivers are also required to have strong multitasking abilities and good peripheral vision.

Yarra Trams has both Full Time and Part Time Drivers. Full Time Drivers are normally rostered to a 38-hour week, which includes weekday, weekend, public holiday, morning, afternoon and evening work. Part Time Drivers are rostered for 23 hours per week. Rosters are drafted in a way that allows drivers to plan their schedule months in advance.

Authorised Officers

The main role of authorised officers (AOs) is to balance the responsibility of upholding transport laws with outstanding customer service.

Primarily, AOs carry out on-and off-tram myki checks, report ticketing offences and submit accurate and detailed reports. They also carry out passenger information duties at special events, occupations and during disruptions, as well as help create a safe and friendly environment for the public.

Customer Service Employees

Our customer support employees deliver informative and friendly customer service at tram stops and onboard trams. They carry out passenger information duties on a day-to-day basis, during special events and during service disruptions. They also assist with crowd management and efficient movement of trams.
