Transport Scheduler

Ding! Ding! Trams are the heart of Melbourne – join our team and be part of the world’s largest tram network.

Play a Key Role in Moving Melbourne

At Yarra Trams, we’re proud to operate the world’s largest tram network — and we’re looking for a skilled Network Service Designer to help keep it running at its best.

You’ll be at the heart of service planning and delivery, designing tram schedules that move thousands of people across Melbourne every day — from daily commutes to major city events like the Grand Prix, Australian Open and New Year’s Eve celebrations.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll be part of a close-knit, cross-functional team, working on a variety of planning and service design challenges, including:

  • Planning, scheduling and rostering tram services for major events (e.g. Grand Prix, AFL, concerts, festivals) and planned disruptions (e.g. rallies, construction, infrastructure renewal), in line with service specifications.
  • Working with the Master Timetable team to implement seasonal and contingency schedules.
  • Delivering safe, cost-effective, and efficient crew and vehicle schedules using systems like HASTUS.
  • Collaborating with teams across Network Readiness and Service Delivery to ensure smooth execution.
  • Analysing data and reporting on service design metrics for Yarra Trams and the Department of Transport & Planning.
  • Providing technical input to continuously improve the network service design function.

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for someone who understand the technical complexity of transport scheduling and bring the agility needed to keep services running smoothly in a dynamic environment.

You’ll ideally have:

  • Tertiary qualifications (transport, engineering, data, or similar) or relevant industry experience.
  • A strong understanding of public transport operations.
  • Hands-on experience with rostering and scheduling systems (e.g. HASTUS).
  • Ability to interpret Franchise Agreements, Enterprise Agreements and an understanding of industrial relations.
  • Strong analytical, visualisation and conceptualisation skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy; with the ability to work methodically or with flexibility.
  • Great communication skills and the confidence to share ideas and challenge assumptions.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver to tight deadlines.

Why Yarra Trams?

At Yarra Trams, we foster a workplace built on respect, celebrate diversity, and embrace inclusivity. Plus, you’ll enjoy the following benefits:

  • A Free travel pass for Victoria’s Public Transport Network
  • Competitive salary and great conditions
  • Professional Development
  • Career growth opportunities
  • A commitment to your health and wellbeing including free flu vax, discounted gym membership, and access to our Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Paid Parental leave for primary caregivers
