Traffic Engineer
Role Purpose
At Yarra Trams, our mission is to deliver world-class transport services to our passengers. In this role, you will contribute to this goal by:
- Providing internal and external traffic engineering support and advice, with a focus on managing the impact of projects and third party works on the tram network and resolving road safety and operational issues.
- Reviewing Traffic Management Plan (TMP) submissions from third parties intending to carry out works on or near the Melbourne tram network.
- Following procedures to maintain accurate records of TMP reviews, revisions, and approvals
Responsibilities
- Collect and analyse tram performance data (e.g., travel times, delays, dwell times) to identify improvement opportunities.
- Identify and communicate risks associated with deviations from Yarra Trams’ standards and specifications.
- Support compliance with traffic engineering standards, practices, and legislative requirements.
- Provide technical advice on tram operations, tram stops, traffic signal designs, and tram priority changes.
- Assess and process third-party TMP submissions, ensuring operational impacts are identified and mitigated.
- Provide timely, clear, and constructive feedback to third parties on TMP revisions, including required mitigation measures to ensure safe and efficient tram operations.
- Ensure deployed TMPs comply with Yarra Trams’ safety and operational requirements.
Skills & Experience
- Tertiary qualifications in Traffic Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 1+ years’ experience in a traffic engineering capacity (desirable).
- Proven ability to build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Understanding of tram operations and Melbourne’s transport network.
- Familiarity with tram infrastructure and safety requirements (desirable).
- Knowledge of traffic engineering standards, tram priority systems, and DTP Roads processes.
- Experience in processing third-party TMPs and managing their operational impacts (desirable)
