Technical Officer, Power & Substations

About this opportunity

 

We are looking for an inspiring self-motivated Technical Officer, Power & Substations who is passionate about working in a high-level technical team environment.  Reporting to the substation supervisor this role involves work that comprises of all power network field work, and if appropriately trained, extends to duties within the Power Operations Centre under the supervision of PCO3 as well as:

 

  • Substation Work: Performing substation planned maintenance, network reactive response and network field operator switching as directed.
  • Power Field Work: developing and executing switching programs, site inspections for complex isolations, issue permits internally and externally.
  • Power Centre work if authorised assisting the Supervisor Power Network Operations (PC03) in all aspects of work at the Power Operations Centre.
  • Ensuring the network safety integrity and assuring continuity of 600V DC supply to the tram network electrical infrastructure and safe access for all work performed on or near the tram electrical network.
  • Undertaking assigned work as directed in accordance with Yarra Trams Annual Works Plan, Technical Standards and Technical Maintenance Plans ensuring compliance with the Electrical Infrastructure Safety Rules, Yarra Trams Safety Management System and Yarra Trams Electrical Safe Systems of Work

 

About you

 

Ideally you will have:

 

  • Authorised Electrical Operator or equivalent HV Operator (STO1 -3)
  • Certificate III with Electrical trade Background (STO1- 2)
  • Diploma in Electrical Technology or equivalent (STO2-3)  
  • Rail Safety Category 1 Medical
  • High Risk White Card
  • Current Victorian Drivers Licence
  • Display a high level of initiative and self- motivation.
  • First Aid qualifications (as required in work environment). 
  • Sound knowledge of the Victorian Traction Industry Electrical Safety Rules
  • Proven experience as an electrical Tradesperson
  • Experience in testing and commissioning of electrical apparatus and equipment
  • Authorised High Voltage Electrical Operator
  • Experience in testing and maintenance of electrical equipment
  • Experience in maintenance analysis techniques
  • Diagnosis and repair of complex electrical faults pertaining to Tram substations (old/new).
  • Fault finding and provision of training in fault finding to subordinates, e.g., STO1-3, PCOs, Substation tradespersons (Electrical Fitters).
  • Reading of electrical diagrams/sequence diagrams etc.
  • Experience in maintenance analysis techniques and environment.
  • Knowledge and experience when working external to substation, e.g., testing on the 600V Over Head system, rail bonds/negative rail return system, electrolysis system, etc.
  • Knowledge and experience in traffic control and retain a high standard of OH&S. (appropriate training and certification required).
