Senior Technical Officer, Power & Substations

Role Purpose

 

At Yarra Trams, our mission is to deliver world-class transport services to our passengers. In this role, you will contribute to this goal by:

  • Substation Work: Perform substation planned maintenance, network reactive response and network field operator switching as directed.

 

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Completion of planned Substation maintenance and renewal activities, including corrective maintenance and reactive maintenance
  • Assist in scheduled testing programs, in accordance with relevant policies and procedures, e.g., Substation TMP, which includes but is not limited to electrolysis mitigation, High voltage protection testing, DC protection testing
  • Under direction from POC3 direct the isolation of tram electrical substation apparatus to facilitate safe access for working on or in the vicinity of the apparatus. Direct electrical isolations for the safety of maintenance crews and public during emergency situations
  • Identify fundamental faults and problems of a complex technical nature within traction power network environment and provide solutions to these complex faults and problems
  • Conduct investigations and formulate reports to the Power substation supervisor and Managers on matters requiring the attention of senior management
  • Participate in risk assessment activities and preparation of SWMS and TRAM SMS to ensure that safe working practices are maintained.

 

 

 

Skills & Experience

 

  • A grade electrical license is mandatory.
  • At minimum Certificate of Technology (Electrical). Advanced Diploma of Engineering (Electrical), or equivalent qualifications or experience STO3.
    • Authorised Electrical Operator or equivalent HV Operator (STO1 -3)
    • Certificate III with Electrical trade Background (STO1- 2)
    • Diploma in Electrical Technology or equivalent (STO2-3) 
  • Sound knowledge of the Victorian Traction Industry Electrical Safety Rules
  • Diagnosis and repair of complex electrical faults pertaining to Tram substations (old/new).
  • Knowledge and experience when working external to substation, e.g., testing on the 600V Over Head system, rail bonds/negative rail return system, electrolysis system, etc.
  • Knowledge and experience in traffic control and retain a high standard of OH&S. (appropriate training and certification required).
  • Strong knowledge, understanding and experience in Yarra Trams tram electrical network
  • Experience in testing and commissioning of electrical apparatus and equipment
