Senior RSO Planner
Role Purpose
About the role
Yarra Trams is seeking an experienced RSO Planner to play a critical role in ensuring our fleet remains safe, reliable, and available to support Melbourne’s world class public transport network.
In this role, you will lead the planning and coordination of Rolling Stock Overhauls (RSO), oversee delivery of the Annual Works Plan, and work closely with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. Your work will have a direct impact on fleet availability, performance, safety, and customer outcomes.
Key responsibilities
Strategic planning & fleet availability
• Plan Rolling Stock Overhaul events to maximise fleet availability and meet contractual and operational requirements
• Undertake short, medium and long term fleet and overhaul forecasting
• Coordinate overhaul planning across workshops and depots to support delivery of the Rolling Stock Annual Works Plan
• Prioritise overhaul and maintenance activities to minimise downtime
Operational coordination & resource management
• Coordinate with maintenance, planning, scheduling, supply chain, procurement, and delivery teams to ensure resources, materials, tooling, and capacity are available
• Assess workshop and depot capacity against upcoming RSO workloads
• Work closely with Supply Chain, Procurement, and Commercial teams to ensure timely, cost effective sourcing of materials
Process efficiency & continuous improvement
• Identify and implement planning and scheduling improvements to maximise productive time during asset downtime
• Coordinate with Engineering teams to ensure scopes of work meet required stage gate and governance standards
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across planning and scheduling functions
Documentation & stakeholder management
• Manage documentation required for accurate monthly invoicing, reporting, and contractual compliance
• Oversee work order management, including task allocation, labour hours, and documentation accuracy
• Coordinate close out activities and consolidation of RSO works for billing and performance reporting
• Assess risks and support development of mitigation strategies
About you
To succeed in this role, you will bring a strong background in maintenance planning and coordination within a large, complex asset or transport environment.
You will ideally have:
• Proven experience in planning and scheduling for organisations with large asset bases
• Strong knowledge of maintenance management, planning, and reporting systems
• Experience coordinating across multiple functions and managing competing priorities
• Understanding of rail safety, OH&S, quality, and risk management principles
• Well developed analytical, problem solving, and decision making skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders
• Confidence working with data, reports, and asset management systems
Desirable but not essential
• Experience using MAXIMO or similar CMMS platforms
• Knowledge of rail vehicle maintenance practices
• Trade or tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline
