Identified Position – Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants only
Help shape a fairer, more inclusive transport future for Victoria.
At Yarra Trams, we’re proud to run one of the world’s largest tram networks, moving millions of people every year across Melbourne. But we’re more than just trams — we’re a team of people committed to delivering safe, inclusive, and sustainable transport for all Victorians.
We’re looking for a passionate and experienced Senior First Peoples Engagement and Inclusion Advisor to help shape a culturally safe, inclusive, and empowering workplace at Yarra Trams.
This role plays a vital part in leading our commitments to First Peoples self-determination — strengthening relationships with communities, driving cultural competence across the organisation, and ensuring our policies, partnerships, and programs reflect respect, inclusion, and shared prosperity.
Your new role
Reporting to the Director, Diversity and Inclusion, you’ll:
• Lead the development and implementation of Yarra Trams’ First Peoples Self-Determination Plan and related initiatives annually.
• Champion self-determination principles and embed them into everyday business practices.
• Build cultural competence across the organisation, including leading training, cultural awareness programs, and reconciliation activities.
• Guide engagement with First Peoples communities and advise on culturally safe practices and protocols.
• Support our social procurement and recruitment teams to increase First Peoples representation in our workforce and supply chain.
• Provide expertise on inclusive policies, language, and communication.
• Track and report on progress towards our First Peoples employment, procurement, and inclusion targets.
What you’ll bring
You’re a respected relationship-builder with a strong understanding of First Peoples cultures and communities. You bring energy, cultural insight, and a genuine commitment to inclusion and reconciliation.
To succeed, you’ll have:
• At least 3 years’ experience developing and implementing First Peoples inclusion and cultural safety initiatives.
• Demonstrated ability to work and communicate in a culturally safe and inclusive way.
• Strong networks and relationship-building skills across diverse communities.
• Understanding of the systemic issues impacting First Peoples communities.
• A passion for equity, inclusion, and creating opportunities for the Victorian Community.
