Senior Advisor, Project Communications and Engagement

Role Purpose

In this role, you will contribute to this goal by working across internal and external environments to ensure the seamless delivery of integrated communication and engagement solutions that support safe, smooth, and socially responsible outcomes.

 

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Develop and implement best-practice strategic communications and engagement plans that align with project goals, The Department of Transport requirements, and reputational priorities.
  • Identify and activate proactive media and brand opportunities, working closely with the Media team to coordinate coverage and content.
  • Lead the planning and execution of multi-channel campaigns (digital, signage, social media, media, roadshows) to build understanding, awareness and trust.
  • Coordinate and support the delivery of on-ground activations such as community pop-ups, workshops, trader briefings, local school visits and mobile information hubs to connect with diverse audiences, including road users and hard-to-reach groups, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including local councils, precinct groups, residents, trader associations, government agencies, The Department of Transport, schools, and advocacy groups.
  • Provide strategic stakeholder relations support to project teams, including the development of stakeholder mapping, risk mitigation strategies, and response protocols for emerging issues.
  • Draft high-quality correspondence, media responses, ministerial briefings, key messages, digital content and publications, ensuring clarity and alignment with Yarra Trams’ tone, purpose and brand.

 

 

Skills & Experience

 

  • Tertiary qualifications in marketing, communications or equivalent field.
  • Minimum 5+ years in strategic communications and stakeholder engagement roles within infrastructure, transport, or government projects
  • Extensive experience in stakeholder relations and communications and/or community engagement with a demonstrated ability to prepare and implement strategies in these areas
  • Knowledge of transport network operations and the cultural context of public transport in Melbourne
  • Proven success developing and delivering major engagement and disruption communication strategies
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including a demonstrated ability to work build positive working relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality written materials, especially in preparing and presenting public information and publicity material
