About this Opportunity

We are seeking motivated and resilient individuals to join Yarra Trams as Authorised Officers.

This is a high visibility, frontline role focused on safety, compliance, and positive customer interactions across Melbourne’s tram network.

As an Authorised Officer, you will play a critical role in maintaining a safe and respectful environment for passengers, employees, and the broader community.

This role requires a strong commitment to enforcing compliance in line with legislation, while managing customer interactions professionally, calmly, and with sound judgement.

You will be working in dynamic environments where no two shifts are the same, requiring confidence, adaptability, and the ability to remain composed when dealing with challenging situations.

 

 

About You

 

Ideally, you will:

 

  • Bring experience from roles involving compliance, enforcement, or regulated environments (e.g. security, policing, transport, customer service, or similar).
  • Demonstrate an understanding of compliance requirements, legislation, or enforcement practices.
  • Be confident managing challenging or confrontational situations with professionalism and composure.
  • Show strong resilience and emotional control in high pressure environments.
  • Have excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage respectfully and clearly with a diverse range of people.
  • Be comfortable working in a high visibility, public facing role.
  • Demonstrate strong judgement, integrity, and accountability in decision making.
  • Align with Yarra Trams’ values: Care, Connect, Create and Safety First.

 

Previous experience as an Authorised Officer is advantageous but not essential.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain a visible presence across the tram network to support safety and deter anti social behaviour.
    

  • Engage with passengers to provide information, support, and assistance.
  • Ensure fare compliance and enforcement in line with legislation and organisational policies.
  • Apply sound judgement when managing conflict, including de escalating challenging situations.
  • Support vulnerable passengers and contribute to a safe and inclusive environment.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, and where required, with Victoria Police and emergency services.
