Principal Government and Stakeholder Relations Advisor

About this opportunity

 

Yarra Trams requires a Principal Government and Stakeholder Relations Advisor to manage and support the development, execution and delivery of stakeholder engagement plans and initiatives to proactively maintain positive and productive relationships with government and other key external stakeholders. This is a hands-on role that will suit an individual who can pivot from the strategic to tactical, while navigating a complex and dynamic external stakeholder network.

 

Reporting to the Executive Director Government and Stakeholder Relations in this role you will be:

 

  • Improving and protecting Yarra Trams' reputation, positioning the organisation as a collaborative and trusted partner with Tier One stakeholders in line with corporate strategy.
  • Conducting research, coordinating information and preparing strategic advice, key messages and presentations for the CEO, Executive Director Government and Stakeholder Relations and senior executives.
  • Managing and supporting the Executive Director in the development and implementation of reactive and proactive strategies to improve collaborative partnerships and stakeholder relations.
  • Building and managing relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to further organisational goals and represent Yarra Trams at external forums.
  • Identifying engagement opportunities, reputational risks, escalating issues as needed and contributing to risk management activities.
  • Delivering measurable outcomes in Tier One and CEO-level government and stakeholder management.

 

About you

 

Ideally you will have:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Public Policy or related field (essential).
  • Proven experience (5-7+ years) in similar roles within Government Relations, Stakeholder Engagement, Communications or Public Relations.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and manage complex stakeholder relationships, both internal and external.
  • Excellent research, writing and PowerPoint skills with the ability to present complex issues or messages clearly, simply and effective for senior audiences.
  • Strong knowledge of the Victorian Government political, policy and transport landscape.
  • Strong experience in supporting, creating and delivering stakeholder relations strategies and tactics to improve positioning and protect organisational reputation.
  • Experience in providing high-level advice to executives.
  • Self-starter, curious, proactive and dynamic in approach and mindset.
  • Excellent organisational, time management and planning skills, including an ability to work autonomously and within a team.
  • Current driver’s licence (preferred).
