Officer, Network Events

Ding! Ding! Trams are the heart of Melbourne – join our team and be part of the world’s largest tram network.

About this opportunity

Yarra Trams is seeking a highly organised and collaborative professional to join our Network Events team on a Part Time 2 days per week on a 12 month Fixed Term Contract. In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating the planning, development, and continuous improvement of event plans that support the safe and efficient operation of Melbourne's tram network during major and special events.

Working closely with internal teams, government agencies, event organisers and other external stakeholders, you will ensure that network event plans are comprehensive, accurate, and informed by lessons learned from previous events. Your work will play a critical role in helping Yarra Trams deliver reliable services and maintain network readiness across a wide range of planned events and activities.

Reporting to the Team Manager, Network Readiness, you will:

  • Develop and maintain network event plans using agreed templates and planning frameworks.
  • Coordinate input from internal and external stakeholders to ensure plans are complete, practical, and effective.
  • Capture and incorporate lessons learned from previous events through structured debrief processes.
  • Lead and facilitate event debriefs, identifying opportunities to improve safety, efficiency, and service delivery.
  • Monitor and report on event outcomes, actions, and improvements.
  • Ensure event-related financials are accurately captured, including the recovery of eligible costs and third-party billing requirements.
  • Support the planning and delivery of major events in accordance with Franchise Agreement requirements.
  • Contribute to projects and initiatives that improve network event planning, operational performance, and customer outcomes.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance processes, standards, and event planning methodologies.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the planning and coordination of some of Melbourne's most significant public events while working in a dynamic, stakeholder-focused environment.

About you

You are a proactive and outcomes-focused professional who thrives in a complex operational environment. You have strong planning and coordination skills, enjoy building productive relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, and can confidently influence outcomes without direct authority.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Demonstrated experience managing network, operational, transport, or major event planning activities.
  • Strong knowledge (or strong willingness to learn about) of the Melbourne metropolitan tram network and tram infrastructure.
  • Thorough understanding of operational rules, standards, procedures, employment conditions, and relevant frameworks associated with network event operations.
  • Proven ability to coordinate work across multiple teams and stakeholders while managing competing priorities.
  • Excellent planning, organisation, project coordination, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build productive relationships across diverse groups.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Familiarity with public transport services and local points of interest across Melbourne.
  • Experience working with government agencies, consultants, contractors, or event organisers.
