Manager, Risk
Role Purpose
At Yarra Trams, our mission is to deliver world-class transport services to our passengers. In this role, you will contribute to this goal by:
- Developing a generative and risk aware safety culture throughout Yarra Trams by leading and continuously improving the risk management aspects of the Yarra Trams Safety Management System and operations
- Providing thought leadership and guidance to the development of the SMS and Operational Risk Management, this position works closely with functional Directors to drive organisational change and implementation of a continuously improving SMS and Operational Risk Framework.
- Ensuring that operational risks — including health, safety, environmental, sustainability, and security risks — are effectively identified, assessed, controlled, and monitored across the organisation. The role is responsible for managing the Management of Change (MoC) process and coordinating Notifications of Change (NoC) to ONRSR.
Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the operational risk management framework that enables systematic identification, analysis, treatment, and monitoring of operational risks.
- Manage and maintain the Operational Risk Register and ensure timely reporting and escalation of key risks.
- Provide expert advice on risk-related matters to operational and executive teams, including control effectiveness, emerging risks, and mitigation strategies.
- Developing and delivering training to support implementation of the Enterprise Risk Management approach and the SMS.
- Development, implementation and maintenance of a risk aware culture in Yarra Trams
- Monitoring the integration of risk reporting with investigation and audit activity to ensure an accurate and live risk register to support business decision making and provide improved organisational assurance.
- Manage the Management of Change (MoC) process, ensuring changes are assessed for risk and control measures are identified and implemented effectively.
Skills/Experience
- Tertiary qualifications in a Risk, Safety or Engineering discipline or closely related subject and extensive proven experience, relevant across at least two of these disciplines.
- Proven knowledge and extensive experience of implementation and operating in an integrated SMS and environment.
- Proven experience in risk management and conducting risk assessments within technical projects and/or construction environments.
- Demonstrated experience in establishing and maintaining compliance with legislation, standards or a similar discipline.
- Extensive demonstrated experience in the application and understanding of relevant Occupational Health and Safety and Rail Safety Legislation.
- Possess a sound understanding of relevant Operational Rules and Procedures, Codes of Practice, Policies and Practices.
- Must be skilled in coaching, supporting and educating line managers
