Human Factors Lead

We’re on the lookout for a Human Factors Lead in this newly established position.  This is an exciting opportunity to shape and embed human factors capability across the organisation, influencing how we design work, manage risk, develop systems and support frontline operations.

As part of our Safety & Security team, you’ll lead the application of human factors principles and methods to improve safety, performance and operational resilience. You'll work across all business areas, providing expert guidance on areas such as fatigue risk management, safety culture, workplace design, workload and the interaction between people, technology and systems.

About the role:  

Reporting into our Director, Safety & Security, this role will:

  • Establish and lead a human factors capability, providing coaching, mentoring, and technical guidance across the organisation

  • Provide specialist subject matter expertise in fatigue risk management, supporting the development and implementation of plans and practices across the organisation

  • Provide guidance on human factors in design (e.g. equipment, interfaces, procedures, and processes) to optimise safety, efficiency, and usability

  • Support investigations by providing expert human factors analysis and contributing to system-level recommendations

  • Procure and liaise with external consultants contributing to Infrastructure & Fleet projects

  • Support Management of Change processes by assessing human factors impacts of proposed operational and organisational changes 

 

About You:  

This role will suit someone with expertise from safety critical organisations, backed up by mandatory qualifications in Psychology, Behavioural Science, Ergonomics, or Human Factors.  In addition, we’re also looking for you to bring:

  • Strong knowledge and demonstrated experience in developing and implementing Fatigue Risk Management systems and supporting operational deployment

  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills across all organisational levels

  • Strong analytical capability and ability to translate research into practical, operational solutions

  • Demonstrated success in leading change and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Demonstrated capability in at least three of the following Human Factors disciplines:

    • Safety Culture and Behaviour
    • Human Factors in Investigation
    • Human Factors in Design
    • Safety Critical Communications
    • Management of Change
    • Training and Competency
