Depot Operations Manager

Role Purpose

In this role, you will play a key part in achieving that goal by leading and managing the delivery of Rolling Stock maintenance, programs, and project requirements across the site. Your responsibilities will include ensuring that all activities meet contractual obligations, comply with legislative standards, and align with broader business objectives.

 

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Oversee the delivery of Rolling Stock maintenance, programs, and projects across designated sites, ensuring alignment with operational, contractual, and legislative requirements.
  • Ensure the necessary resources, systems, and processes are in place to support efficient and effective work execution.
  • Lead the Rolling Stock workforce, fostering a culture of safety, performance, accountability, and alignment with Yarra Trams’ values.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations, including tram availability, to meet KPIs and program deliverables.
  • Monitor and report on performance, compliance, and contractual obligations, including maintenance schedules and project milestones.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance Rolling Stock reliability, availability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Support workforce development through talent planning, while providing expert advice on performance, risks, and opportunities to the Manager, Rolling Stock Works.

Experience & Knowledge

 

  • Proven experience managing a multi-functional workforce in maintenance, production, or project environments, ideally within Rolling Stock operations.
  • Strong background in coordinating maintenance, overhauls, repairs, and project delivery, with the ability to work effectively across planning, engineering, and program teams.
  • Solid understanding of workforce planning, rostering, EBAs, and operational systems including safety, quality, reporting, and training.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead performance improvement initiatives and support workforce development through training and talent management.
  • Effective stakeholder management skills, with experience engaging staff, unions, internal teams, and external bodies such as DTP, ONRSR, WorkSafe, EPA, and ESV.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant legislation and standards, including OH&S, Rail Safety Regulations, and environmental compliance.
  • Commitment to Yarra Trams’ values, including EEO and anti-bullying policies, with a strong focus on quality, risk management, and continuous improvement.

 


Qualifications


    
Possess tertiary qualifications (electrical/mechanical/civil) and/or proven experience in leading and managing a multi-functional workforce in a maintenance, service delivery, project or production environment comprising of field-based staff.
