About the Opportunity

 

Yarra Trams is seeking a Data Platform Specialist to drive the technical governance, engineering standards, and data management practices that underpin our enterprise Data Management Platform (DMP). This role plays a key part in ensuring that the organisation’s data assets are secure, high-quality, and shared responsibly across the business and with the Department of Transport.
You will define reusable engineering patterns, uplift governance maturity, and guide the consistent use of Azure Synapse, Databricks, ADF and related technologies. You will also lead the development and coordination of data governance frameworks, support information management activities, and partner with stakeholders to improve enterprise data quality and reliability.


What You Will Be Doing

 

Data & Information Management

 

  • Implement and maintain the Data and Information Management Plan (DIMP).
  • Develop data governance frameworks, policies, standards and procedures.
  • Coordinate enterprise data sharing and information management processes.
  • Conduct maturity assessments, audits and gap analysis to support continuous improvement.
  • Maintain the Yarra Trams information asset register, metadata, and associated data models.
  • Support change management and uplift in data governance capability across the organisation.

 

Safety, Risk and Compliance

 

  • Support threat identification and risk mitigation for data and information assets.
  • Ensure privacy‑by‑design and security‑by‑design principles are applied across the DMP.

 

Stakeholder Engagement & Technical Leadership

 

  • Provide guidance and training to uplift data governance capability.
  • Collaborate with the Data and Analytics team to maintain data integrity.
  • Work closely with Data Owners, Custodians and the Department of Transport to align data standards.
  • Support adoption of consistent engineering patterns across Azure Synapse, Databricks and ADF.

 

 

What You Will Bring

 

  • 2+ years’ experience in Data Governance, Data Architecture or Data Analytics.
  • Strong understanding of Azure data environments, SQL and BI systems.
  • Experience implementing data governance frameworks and technical standards.
  • Experience with Azure data services including Synapse, ADF, Databricks and data modelling.
  • Familiarity with DAMA-DMBOK or similar frameworks.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret governance or compliance requirements.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders across technical and operational domains.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
