About the Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Claims Manager to lead the end‑to‑end management of third‑party fault claims on behalf of Yarra Trams. This role is responsible for minimising organisational liability, maximising cost recovery, and ensuring each claim is managed fairly, efficiently, and in line with legal and organisational requirements.
You will conduct investigations, assess liability, coordinate evidence, negotiate settlements, and ensure all claims are resolved using best‑practice processes. The position works closely with insurers, legal representatives, service partners, and internal stakeholders to support timely progression and high‑quality outcomes.
The role also provides important administrative and coordination support to the Claims Department, including managing correspondence, preparing reports, overseeing documentation standards, and ensuring claims files remain compliant, accurate, and audit‑ready.

What You Will Be Doing

Investigate and Assess Claims

  • Manage end‑to‑end claims, including evidence gathering, liability assessment, negotiation, and closure.

Recovery and Dispute Management

  • Pursue cost recovery where appropriate, manage disputes, and escalate matters to legal services when required.

Settlement and Negotiation

  • Negotiate fair, reasonable settlement outcomes that minimise organisational exposure.

Claims Administration

  • Maintain accurate claims records, prepare correspondence and reports, process payments, and ensure compliance with policy and legislative requirements.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work collaboratively with internal teams, legal providers, insurers, service partners, and members of the public to support timely and effective claim resolution.

What You Will Bring

  • Experience within legal, insurance, commercial, or dispute resolution environments.
  • Strong capability in evidence assessment, liability evaluation, and documentation.
  • Experience working with complaint management systems, enterprise applications, or case management tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate effective, outcome‑focused resolutions.
  • Understanding of risk principles and regulatory requirements including Victorian Road Rules and relevant safety legislation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to manage sensitive or complex conversations professionally.
  • Strong administrative skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, work independently, and support critical departmental functions.
  • High‑level research and analytical capability to support decision‑making.
  • Ability to build rapport and maintain strong stakeholder relationships.
