About this opportunity

We are looking for an inspiring leader who is passionate about Governance & Safety Systems …. Reporting to the Chief Safety Officer a typical week in this role might look like/this role involves:
•    Managing activities involving the annual and any ad-hoc review of Yarra Trams’ Safety Management System (SMS);
•    Managing actions to address any identified issues and/or gaps in Yarra Trams’ SMS and its operational systems and procedures.
•    Managing reviews of operational procedures, deviations from Standards and industry Codes of Practice and provide timely notification of deficiencies. 
•    Monitoring corporate compliance to ensure rail accreditation and regulatory requirements and conditions are met.
•    Monitor Industry for learning, innovation and best practice to continually improve SMS
•    Preparing submissions on rail accreditation and legislative changes to advance Yarra Trams’ interest as a rail transport operator.
•    Preparing briefings for relevant stakeholders, internal and external, on potential impacts of changes to rail accreditation requirements.
•    Developing strategies and providing authoritative advice and practical expertise to senior management on policies, audits, compliance, independent safety assessments, operational and reporting requirements, and project safety assurance as required.
•    As a subject matter expert, provide practical and technical knowledge and expertise to the development of policy changes including contributing to the development and implementation of SMS related activities. 
•    Pro-actively building and maintaining positive relationships with key stakeholders.

About you

Ideally you will be able to work in a systemic manner and adapt quickly to the operational requirements of the business, good stakeholder management skills are essential to this role. You should also have:
•    Drafting, implementing, monitoring and reviewing safety management systems;
•    The interpretation and application of the Rail Safety National Law and other legislative instruments;
•    Drafting, reviewing and presenting high quality safety and risk reports
•    Safety and system assurance of operations and projects;
•    Risk management 
•    The field of continual improvement of safety management systems 
•    Planning and conducting safety audits and inspections; and
•    Managing improvement projects
