About the Opportunity


Reporting to the Track Supervisor, this role plays a vital part in maintaining Yarra Tram’s track infrastructure.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Performing general labor tasks on tram tracks and associated infrastructure.
  • Assisting with infrastructure projects and track maintenance.
  • Ensuring safe and cost-effective execution of tram track maintenance as directed by the Track Supervisor.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Carry out labour-intensive tasks such as asphalting and concreting.
  • Operate mechanical equipment, including jackhammers and vibrating plates, under supervision.
  • Drive and operate various trucks, including welding trucks, tippers, and drain/points cleaning vehicles, as required.
  • Assist in the replacement, repair, and maintenance of tram tracks and associated infrastructure.
  • Identify and mitigate occupational health, safety, and environmental risks.
  • Perform emergency, routine, and corrective track maintenance in line with infrastructure standards.
  • Conduct basic welding and oxy-cutting following maintenance procedures.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of Tram Track Maintenance Standards.
  • Provide emergency response support and execute maintenance repairs as needed.
  • Carry out track and points maintenance, including cleaning and servicing assets.
  • Accurately report maintenance activities to the Track Supervisor.
  • Implement traffic management measures as required.

 

About You


Hold a current Victorian Driver’s Licence (Medium Rigid endorsement preferred).
Be medically fit to perform the duties of the role.
Have full working rights in Australia.
Demonstrate the ability to work independently, using initiative to manage unexpected situations safely and effectively.


Experience & Knowledge

 

  • Strong understanding of the tram network, with experience in fault detection and resolution.
  • Willingness to complete relevant training, including Tram Electrical & Track Safety, Overhead Appreciation, and Traffic Management.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including day/night shifts, weekends, and public holidays as needed.
  • Previous experience in tram track maintenance (highly desirable).
  • Solid knowledge of workplace health and safety regulations related to track maintenance.
