Technician, Automatic Points

At Yarra Trams, we strive to deliver world-class transport services to our passengers. In this role, you will play a crucial part in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of tram services by maintaining and servicing automatic points. Your key responsibilities include:

 

  • Performing maintenance on automatic points as per the Tramway Maintenance Plan (TMP) and responding to reactive works and projects.
  • Supporting the safe operation and reliability of tram services through effective maintenance and repairs.
  • Undertaking both planned and reactive maintenance tasks, including project-related works, to uphold the performance and longevity of automatic points.

 

Your contribution will directly impact the safety, punctuality, and efficiency of Yarra Trams' services.


About this opportunity

 

  • Rotating shift roster and 'on call' rotation.
  • Reporting to the Team Manager, Points Maintenance a typical week in this role involves:
  • Attend and fix faults related to automatic points as reported by Operation Centre
  • Attend to scheduled and reactive response works for Automatic Points and Signalling Assets. 
  • Attend to emergency works as required by Team Manager, Points Maintenance 
  • Be able to attend to signaling interface faults with VicRoads equipment
  • Undertake maintenance and inspection activities as per technical maintenance plan.
  • Provide input to the automatic points maintenance effectiveness and efficiency program
  • Undertake advanced field diagnostic to ensure issues are attended to avoid disruption to tram services.
  • Complete daily work inspection reports and ensure that accurate records of point degeneration, repairs and ancillary maintenance data are maintained.
  • Analyse records with Team Manager, Signals and identify opportunities to improve maintenance program
  • Ensure that work generated out of Maximo is attended to within the allowable time frame.
  • Undertake workshop repair / rehabilitation for automatic points and signalling equipment components.
  • Undertake site installation works in accordance to approved design.
  • Provide advanced technical expertise/support in the installation of automatic points and signalling equipment on site

 

About you

 

 

  • Must have an electrical trade certificate and possess a current Electrical ‘A’ grade licence. Must have a basic competence in the use of PCs and applicable software application with the Electrical Industry 
  • Be familiar with discrete relay system, PLC, microprocessor, and data logging system used on automatic points installations.
  • Must be self-motivated, have good interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others.
  • Knowledge of Road Safety (Traffic) Regulations and road and traffic design standards particularly relating to tram operations.
