Supply Chain Material Planner

Ding! Ding! Trams are the heart of Melbourne – join our team and be part of the world’s largest tram network.

Role Purpose

At Yarra Trams, we are committed to delivering world-class transport services to the people of Melbourne. Ensuring tram availability is essential to maintaining on-time performance across the network. The Material Planner plays a crucial role in achieving this by effectively managing the inventory profile and supplier base for assigned commodities.

Based at the Preston Depot, with occasional travel across the wider depot network and time spent at the city Tram Hub, this role serves as the primary contact for Rolling Stock teams regarding material availability. The position is pivotal in ensuring that depot operations are supported with the necessary materials to keep trams running reliably.

In addition, the role involves developing and maintaining strong, long-term relationships with key suppliers, working collaboratively to ensure consistent part availability and to minimise any potential disruptions to the network.

  • Monitor and adjust re-order parameters, ensuring optimal stock levels and supplier performance against DIFOT targets.

  • Oversee supplier relationships, including strategic reviews and RFQ negotiations, ensuring compliance with procurement guidelines.
  • Ensure accurate setup of new parts in the catalogue with appropriate re-order parameters.
  • Address and resolve supplier-raised obsolescence issues with proactive planning.
  • Support Rolling Stock availability by executing the Depot Distribution Strategy and collaborating on annual inventory profile reviews.

Skills and Experience

  • Relevant Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain or Commerce.
