Senior Safety Advisor Operations

At Yarra Trams, as part of our commitment to providing world-class transport services, your role involves advising management on safety initiatives, driving consistency and quality in risk assessments, audits, investigations, and corrective actions across operational functions. Additionally, you will develop processes to enable effective use by managers, providing advice, support, and coaching to align with functional safety plan requirements, Yarra Trams safety strategy, and the Safety Management System.

Safety Management

  • Manage Safety Advisors, ensuring guidance and support
  • Develop positive internal and external relationships
  • Monitor safety inputs and outputs from operational functions
  • Conduct audits for legal compliance (OHS, rail, energy, road)
  • Develop and deliver processes to enhance maintenance activities
  • Participate in communication forums to share safety initiatives
  • Compile annual surveillance audit requirements for ISO standards
  • Analyse incident data, identify trends, and minimize Injury Frequency Rate
  • Support local training programs addressing significant risk areas

 

Rail Safety

  • Support implementation of rail safety systems
  • Assist in developing rail safety systems
  • Provide advice and support during regulatory audits on risk assessment
  • Ensure operational management understands rail safety obligations
  • Manage ONRSR quarterly meetings
  • Manage MSRRC monthly meetings

 

Risk Management

  • Implement risk procedures, tools, and processes
  • Provide advice on risk assessment scope development
  • Assist in facilitating consultation and providing advice during risk assessments
  • Offer advice on risk controls and lessons learned
  • Support change implementation through risk management processes

 

Corrective Action

  • Seek advice for ongoing improvement of corrective action tools
  • Maintain the corrective actions register with current information
  • Advise on progress and compliance with corrective action processes
  • Transfer updates from corrective action process into risk registers
  • Collaborate with corrective action owners to ensure supporting evidence

 

Audit Support

  • Provide advice and support for auditees in internal and external audit programs
  • Assist in supporting managers during regulatory audits

 

 

About you

 

Your qualifications, skills and experience will include;

  • Diploma in Health, Safety, or Environment with extensive proven experience.
  • Proven experience in risk assessments, audits, task observations, and safety investigations.
  • Ability to manage complex tasks within tight timeframes.
  • Demonstrated understanding of asset-operation interactions.
  • History of goal-setting, performance improvement, and compliance maintenance.
  • Extensive knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety and Rail Safety Legislation.
  • Familiarity with Operational Rules, Procedures, Codes of Practice, and quality/risk management concepts.
  • Skilled in providing advice for risk assessments, corrective actions, audits, and investigations.
  • Adaptability to change and working under pressure in a dynamic environment.
  • Advocacy and promotional skills in system/process development in a complex organization.
