Manager, Medicals and Rehabilitation

Role Purpose


The role is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing injury management and return-to-work programs that support the rehabilitation of injured employees across Yarra Trams.


Responsibilities

 

  • Key responsibilities include providing leadership and expert rehabilitation advice under the WIRC Act to Case Manager – Workcover, Senior Operational Management, Injured Employees, And Other Internal and External Stakeholders.
  • This role will drive strategic priorities to enhance rehabilitation service delivery, optimize injury management, and improve return-to-work outcomes while minimizing risk to the organization.
  • Additionally, the role serves as an escalation point for injured employees, their representatives, and operational teams, ensuring a fair and effective resolution of rehabilitation matters.
  • Collaboration with HR, Safety, and Operational teams is essential to delivering a holistic injury management approach that meets both employee and business needs.


Skills

 

  • Problem solving capability including the ability to plan, proactivity and deliver against targets in a dynamic business environment.
  • Empathic case management in line with Just and Fair Culture.
  • Ability to facilitate return to work discussion with key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with a diverse range of people.
  • Understanding and consider the financial impact related to workers compensation claims and premiums.
  • Sound statistical, analytical and administrative skills.
  • Proficient in the use of computer applications, specifically Microsoft Office programs, ARM, HRIS and other relevant software applications.


Skills & Experience

 

  • Knowledge of WIRC Act and Rail Safety legislation.
  • Managing Workcover claims in accordance with the Workcover Legislation.
  • Co-ordinate rehabilitation and vocational opportunities for employees subject to return-to-work programs or restrictions.
  • Develop and implement case management strategies for ill or injured employees.
  • Provide advice to management on Workcover and rehabilitation process.
  • Premium management and claim reimbursement.
  • Design and develop a learning program that support the employee education relating to Workers Compensation and Rehabilitation in the workplace.
  • Workcover metrics and medicals
  • Demonstrable capacity in analysis of medicals, Injury management & Injury classification program, trends and performance indicators.
  • Demonstrable skills in the preparation and presentation of written reports.
